Early diagnosis of acute kidney injury
Tập 5 - Trang 527-534 - 2010
Marius G. Dehne, Bernd Hartmann, Christian Katzer, Rainer Röhrig
There is a considerable lack of data concerning the diagnostic testing for kidney damage after surgical procedures. In this situation the most important variables should be examined with respect to their clinical informative value, the costs associated with their analysis, and their potential use in routine diagnostic testing. Forty patients in the surgical intensive care unit (ICU) with acute kid... hiện toàn bộ

Tập 3 - Trang 510-513 - 2008
Abdul R. Hakeem, Telal O. Mudawi, William L. Morrison
The sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is a relatively rare condition that may be congenital or acquired. We present a case of a young man who was admitted to the emergency department with acute dyspnoea whilst playing football. After investigation, the diagnosis of a ruptured right sinus of Valsalva aneurysm into the right atrium was made. The patient also had a bicuspid aortic valve. Percutaneous approa... hiện toàn bộ
Are Ottawa knee rules useful in actual trauma care?
Tập 2 - Trang 216-221 - 2007
Kamal Nagpal, Mandar Marathe
Acute knee injuries are a common presentation to the emergency department(ED). Ottawa knee rules (OKR) have shown to reduce the number of radiographs in these patients in North American studies and a fracture rate of 5% has been reported. Based on this, we tested the hypothesis that it was possible to decrease the number of x-ray films obtained after a knee trauma without delayed fracture diagnosi... hiện toàn bộ
Letter to Editor: Impact of labor on uterine scar healing
Tập 8 - Trang 434-435 - 2013
Stéphanie Roberge, Emmanuel Bujold
Ultrasound of uterine scar after cesarean and measurement of its thickness can be used to evaluate its healing and risk factors for scar defect and uterine rupture. However, we believe that a period of up to 6 months after surgery is necessary to achieve complete healing of the scar, especially in cases of cesarean performed during labor.

- 2009
Regina Rėklaitienė, Miglė Bacevičienė, K. Andrijauskas

Homocysteinemia, hypertension, and family history of diabetes in a smoking male population in Saudi Arabia
Tập 3 - Trang 167-172 - 2008
Nasser M. Al-Daghri, Omar S. Al-Attas
Arabs have a lower incidence of atherosclerosis than other ethnicities, but few studies have examined homocysteine (HCYS) as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease in this population. Here, we investigated the association between serum HYCS levels and risk factors for cardiovascular disease (smoking, hypertension, and family history of diabetes) in Saudi males. A total of 50 smokers and 72 nonsm... hiện toàn bộ
Venous aneurysms — a neglected pathology
Tập 3 - Trang 503-504 - 2008
Mazda Turel, Edwin Stephen, Sukria Nayak, Sunil Agarwal
Venous aneurysms are not often recognised nor given importance due to the more serious and challenging nature of their arterial counterpart. They are uncommon entities that generally present as a painless swelling, can be accurately diagnosed by duplex venous scanning and are completely cured by surgical excision. We present a short report of 14 cases treated at a tertiary care centre in India ove... hiện toàn bộ
Interpretation of data in patients with enteral and parenteral nutrition
Tập 7 - Trang 720-728 - 2012
Radka Tomova, Penka Tzaneva, Marian Nikolov, Vasil Simeonov
Multivariate statistical analysis is performed using clinical data characterizing the state of patients subject to early enteral (EEN) and pareneteral (PN) nutrition after major gastrointestinal surgery. Several patterns of linkage, between the clinical parameters for both groups of observed patients (with mixed (EEN+PN) and with parenteral nutrition only (TPN)), were found and interpreted. Discri... hiện toàn bộ
‘Low — T3 syndrome’ among patients with acute myocardial infarction
Tập 9 - Trang 10-14 - 2013
Edita Jankauskienė, Jolanta-Justina Vaškelytė, Eglė Rumbinaitė
Recent clinical studies have found that cardiovascular incidents are sufficient triggers to affect HPA hypothalamic-pituitarythyroid axis and cause a decrease in the serum levels of triiodothyronine (T3). This phenomenon is so called ‘Low — triiodothyronine (T3) syndrome’ and is related to changes in heart remodeling. However, the pathophysiology of Low—T3 syndrome remains unclear. The present sys... hiện toàn bộ
