Cobalt Complexes as Antiviral and Antibacterial Agents Tập 3 Số 6 - Trang 1711-1728
Eddie L. Chang, Christa Simmers, D. Andrew Knight
Metal ion complexes are playing an increasing role in the development of
antimicrobials. We review here the antimicrobial properties of cobalt
coordination complexes in oxidation state 3+. In addition to reviewing the
cobalt complexes containing polydentate donor ligands, we also focus on the
antimicrobial activity of the homoleptic [Co(NH3)6]3+ ion.
Antimicrobial Peptides from Fish Tập 7 Số 3 - Trang 265-310
Jorge A. Masso-Silva, Gill Diamond
Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are found widely distributed through Nature, and
participate in the innate host defense of each species. Fish are a great source
of these peptides, as they express all of the major classes of AMPs, including
defensins, cathelicidins, hepcidins, histone-derived peptides, and a
fish-specific class of the cecropin family, called piscidins. As with other
species, the fish... hiện toàn bộ
A Review of Ten Years of the Study for Monitoring Antimicrobial Resistance Trends (SMART) from 2002 to 2011 Tập 6 Số 11 - Trang 1335-1346
Ian Morrissey, Meredith Hackel, Robert E. Badal, Samuel K. Bouchillon, Stephen Hawser, Douglas J. Biedenbach
Surveillance of antimicrobial agent resistance provides important information to
guide microbiologists and infectious disease specialists understanding of the
control and the spread of resistance mechanisms within the local environment.
Continued monitoring of antimicrobial resistance patterns in the community and
in local hospital environments is essential to guide effective empiric therapy.

Colchicine-Binding Site Inhibitors from Chemistry to Clinic: A Review Tập 13 Số 1 - Trang 8
Eavan C. McLoughlin, Niamh M. O’Boyle
It is over 50 years since the discovery of microtubules, and they have become
one of the most important drug targets for anti-cancer therapies. Microtubules
are predominantly composed of the protein tubulin, which contains a number of
different binding sites for small-molecule drugs. There is continued interest in
drug development for compounds targeting the colchicine-binding site of tubulin,
ter... hiện toàn bộ
Inflammation and Neuro-Immune Dysregulations in Autism Spectrum Disorders Tập 11 Số 2 - Trang 56
Dario Siniscalco, Stanley G. Schultz, Anna Lisa Brigida, Nicola Antonucci
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterized by persistent deficits in social
communication and interaction and restricted-repetitive patterns of behavior,
interests, or activities. Strong inflammation states are associated with ASD.
This inflammatory condition is often linked to immune system dysfunction.
Several cell types are enrolled to trigger and sustain these processes.

Nanoparticle-Based Delivery of RNAi Therapeutics: Progress and Challenges Tập 6 Số 1 - Trang 85-107
Jiehua Zhou, Ka To Shum, John Burnett, John J. Rossi
RNA interference (RNAi) is an evolutionarily conserved, endogenous process for
post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. Although RNAi therapeutics
have recently progressed through the pipeline toward clinical trials, the
application of these as ideal, clinical therapeutics requires the development of
safe and effective delivery systems. Inspired by the immense progress with
nanotechnolo... hiện toàn bộ
Lactoferrin from Milk: Nutraceutical and Pharmacological Properties Tập 9 Số 4 - Trang 61
Francesco Giansanti, Gloria Panella, Loris Leboffe, Giovanni Antonini
Lactoferrin is an iron-binding protein present in large quantities in colostrum
and in breast milk, in external secretions and in polymorphonuclear leukocytes.
Lactoferrin’s main function is non-immune protection. Among several protective
activities shown by lactoferrin, those displayed by orally administered
lactoferrin are: (i) antimicrobial activity, which has been presumed due to iron
deprivat... hiện toàn bộ
Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of the Newer Anti-Epilepsy Medications Tập 3 Số 6 - Trang 1909-1935
Matthew D. Krasowski
In the past twenty years, 14 new antiepileptic drugs have been approved for use
in the United States and/or Europe. These drugs are eslicarbazepine acetate,
felbamate, gabapentin, lacosamide, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, oxcarbazepine,
pregabalin, rufinamide, stiripentol, tiagabine, topiramate, vigabatrin and
zonisamide. In general, the clinical utility of therapeutic drug monitoring has
not been e... hiện toàn bộ
Opioid Analgesia and Opioid-Induced Adverse Effects: A Review Tập 14 Số 11 - Trang 1091
Alok Kumar Paul, Craig M. Smith, Mohammed Rahmatullah, Veeranoot Nissapatorn, Polrat Wilairatana, Mariana Spetea, Nuri Gueven, Nikolas Dietis
Opioids are widely used as therapeutic agents against moderate to severe acute
and chronic pain. Still, these classes of analgesic drugs have many potential
limitations as they induce analgesic tolerance, addiction and numerous
behavioural adverse effects that often result in patient non-compliance. As
opium and opioids have been traditionally used as painkillers, the exact
mechanisms of their adv... hiện toàn bộ
A Review of Therapeutic Aptamer Conjugates with Emphasis on New Approaches Tập 6 Số 3 - Trang 340-357
John G. Bruno
The potential to emulate or enhance antibodies with nucleic acid aptamers while
lowering costs has prompted development of new aptamer-protein, siRNA, drug, and
nanoparticle conjugates. Specific focal points of this review discuss DNA
aptamers covalently bound at their 3' ends to various proteins for enhanced
stability and greater pharmacokinetic lifetimes in vivo. The proteins can
include Fc tail... hiện toàn bộ
