Comparative study on the friction behaviour of piston/bore interface technologies
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 4 Số 3 - Trang 101-109 - 2019

Engine crank case designs for passenger car applications are based today on two main material technologies: grey cast iron and an increasing share of aluminium-based concepts. Due to the low wear resistance of aluminium, the latter concepts require a wear protective layer for the cylinder bore surface. Iron-based thermal spray coats are widely used for this purpose. The coating improves the tribol...... hiện toàn bộ

AbstractIn this paper, we describe experimental developments in an Exhaust Aftertreatment System (EAS) used in a four-cylinder Compression Ignition (CI) engine. To meet the carbon dioxide (CO$$_\mathrm {2}$$ 2 ) fleet limit values and to demonstrate a clean emission concept, the CI engine needs to be further developed in a hybridized, modern form before it can be included in the future fleet. In this work, the existing EAS was replaced by an Electrically Heated Catalyst (EHC) and a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) double-dosing system. We focused specifically on calibrating the heating modes in tandem with the electric exhaust heating, which enabled us to develop an ultra-fast light-off concept. The paper first outlines the development steps, which were subsequently validated using the Worldwide harmonized Light-duty vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC). Then, based on the defined calibration, a sensitivity analysis was conducted by performing various dynamic driving cycles. In particular, we identified emission species that may be limited in the future, such as laughing gas (N$$_\mathrm {2}$$ hiện toàn bộ
Internal combustion engines water injection fed by Exhaust Water Recirculation (EWR): a feasibility analysis
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - - 2020
A. Vaudrey, J. Cuisano
Water injection is one of the ways available to mitigate internal combustion engine propelled vehicles pollutions. Its practical use, yet, may require the presence of an additional liquid water tank on board, which implies new costs and constraints. In the present paper, we try to figure out whether such a tank is really needed or not. Ambient humidity, fuel chemical composition, Water–Fuel Ratio ...... hiện toàn bộ
Computer aided derivation of vehicle modules and functions from use cases in order to create user orientated vehicle interior concepts

AbstractTrends such as autonomous driving, non-driving related activities and digitalisation are contributing to a revolution in vehicle concept design. An aspect of this is the consideration of future use cases in shaping vehicle architectures. Future user scenarios can help identify relevant use cases, from which the user needs and system requirements can be deri...... hiện toàn bộ
Smart data preprocessing method for remote vehicle diagnostics to increase data compression efficiency
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 7 - Trang 307-316 - 2022
Lorenz Görne, Hans-Christian Reuss, Andreas Krätschmer, Ralf Sauerwald
The increasing number of functions in modern vehicle leads to an exponential increase in software complexity. The validity and reliability of all components must be ensured, making the use of appropriate vehicle diagnostics systems indispensable. The purpose of such systems is to collect and process data about the vehicle. To find issues during vehicle development, the OEMs will usually have a dev...... hiện toàn bộ
NO2-immission assessment for an urban hot-spot by modelling the emission–immission interaction
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 6 - Trang 113-125 - 2021
Tim Steinhaus, Mikula Thiem, Christian Beidl
Urban air quality and climate protection are two major challenges for future mobility systems. Despite the steady reduction of pollutant emissions from vehicles over past decades, local immission load within cities partially still reaches heights, which are considered potentially hazardous to human health. Although traffic-related emissions account for a major part of the overall urban pollution, ...... hiện toàn bộ

Hybrid model for exhaust systems in vehicle thermal management simulations
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 7 - Trang 115-136 - 2022
Saad Ahmed, Hermann Rottengruber, Markus Full
Using Vehicle Thermal Management (VTM) simulations to predict the thermal load experienced by components is a popular method within the automotive industry. The VTM simulation approach is fast becoming equivalent to conducting thermal load tests with prototypes for vehicles powered by internal combustion engines. This is especially true in the early development phase of the vehicle. The accuracy o...... hiện toàn bộ
