Comparative study on the friction behaviour of piston/bore interface technologies
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 4 Số 3 - Trang 101-109 - 2019

Engine crank case designs for passenger car applications are based today on two main material technologies: grey cast iron and an increasing share of aluminium-based concepts. Due to the low wear resistance of aluminium, the latter concepts require a wear protective layer for the cylinder bore surface. Iron-based thermal spray coats are widely used for this purpose. The coating improves the tribol...... hiện toàn bộ

AbstractIn this paper, we describe experimental developments in an Exhaust Aftertreatment System (EAS) used in a four-cylinder Compression Ignition (CI) engine. To meet the carbon dioxide (CO$$_\mathrm {2}$$ 2 ) fleet limit values and to demonstrate a clean emission concept, the CI engine needs to be further developed in a hybridized, modern form before it can be included in the future fleet. In this work, the existing EAS was replaced by an Electrically Heated Catalyst (EHC) and a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) double-dosing system. We focused specifically on calibrating the heating modes in tandem with the electric exhaust heating, which enabled us to develop an ultra-fast light-off concept. The paper first outlines the development steps, which were subsequently validated using the Worldwide harmonized Light-duty vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC). Then, based on the defined calibration, a sensitivity analysis was conducted by performing various dynamic driving cycles. In particular, we identified emission species that may be limited in the future, such as laughing gas (N$$_\mathrm {2}$$ hiện toàn bộ
Usage-based optimisation of characteristic maps for conceptual powertrain design
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 2 - Trang 49-61 - 2017
Tobias Hellberg, Martin Meywerk
With an increasing number of vehicles having alternative powertrains, the choice of the most appropriate powertrain for a vehicle class or load cycle is more challenging. This paper introduces a method for usage-based optimisation of powertrains. Based on a longitudinal dynamic simulation, the characteristic maps of the traction machines are optimised for different user cycles and these characteri...... hiện toàn bộ

Acoustics represents a quality feature of a passenger vehicle. During the first development phases, prediction tools of the acoustic performance are required to assess in the design process. A combination of numerical and experimental data provides a good compromise between accuracy and modeling effort. A key part of the airborne noise transmission chain are the different passive acoustic treatmen...... hiện toàn bộ
Operation of a diesel engine with intake manifold alcohol injection
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 4 - Trang 17-28 - 2019
A. Damyanov, P. Hofmann
The usage of ethanol and two different mixtures of ethanol and gasoline (E85 and E65) was investigated on a modified diesel engine designed to work in a dual-fuel combustion mode with intake manifold alcohol injection. The tests were conducted at five operating points covering low, medium and high load and different engine speeds. Additionally, an engine-process simulation model was built for the ...... hiện toàn bộ
Novel dynamic conditioning unit for the reproduction of real driving conditions on a test bed
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 5 - Trang 199-213 - 2020
Stefan Geneder, Günter Hohenberg
The importance of thermal management has increased with the advent of electrification and fuel cell. The dynamic response required from the thermal circuit has also increased and cannot be reproduced by today’s conditioning systems. This contribution describes a novel, considerably more powerful conditioning concept with three main characteristics: The new conditioning concept is validat...... hiện toàn bộ
Injection strategies for low HC raw emissions in SI engines with CNG direct injection
Springer Science and Business Media LLC - Tập 1 - Trang 81-91 - 2016

The energy source natural gas represents an attractive alternative fuel for SI engines due to its suitable chemical properties. But the lower performance yield and the insufficient infrastructure lead to a rejection by the customer. One approach to gain acceptance is the improvement of the driveability of the natural gas-powered vehicles. Direct injection of CNG is a technology with potential to a...... hiện toàn bộ
