The use of low temperature X‐ray diffraction to evaluate freezing methods used in freeze‐fracture electron microscopyJournal of Microscopy - Tập 112 Số 1 - Trang 103-113 - 1978
T. Gulik‐Krzywicki, M. Joseph Costello
SUMMARYTwo methods of freezing samples for freeze‐fracture electron microscopy
have been compared using X‐ray diffraction and freeze‐fracture results from
lipid‐water model systems. Perturbations of the molecular organization of
hydrocarbon chains and the extent of ice crystal formation have been evaluated
for lamellar phases of egg lecithin containing 16% water and egg
lecithin‐phosphatidylinosit... hiện toàn bộ
A physical phantom for the calibration of three‐dimensional X‐ray microtomography examinationJournal of Microscopy - Tập 222 Số 2 - Trang 124-134 - 2006
Egon Perilli, Fabio Baruffaldi, Maria Cristina Bisi, Luca Cristofolini, Angelo Cappello
SummaryX‐ray microtomography is rapidly gaining importance as a non‐destructive
investigation technique, especially in the three‐dimensional examination of
trabecular bone. Appropriate quantitative three‐dimensional parameters
describing the investigated structure were introduced, such as the
model‐independent thickness and the structure model index. The first parameter
calculates a volume‐based t... hiện toàn bộ
Polylysine as an adhesive for the attachment of nanoplankton to substrates for electron microscopyJournal of Microscopy - Tập 131 Số 1 - Trang 127-129 - 1983
Harvey J. Marchant, D. Paul Thomas
SUMMARYNanoplankton can be readily attached to polylysine‐coated substrates for
examination by transmission and scanning electron microscopy. This simple
technique gives high yields of organisms which are consistently better preserved
and less obscured by detritus than samples dried directly on to substrates.
Two‐photon image correlation spectroscopy and image cross‐correlation spectroscopyJournal of Microscopy - Tập 200 Số 1 - Trang 14-25 - 2000
Paul W. Wiseman, Jeffrey A. Squier, Mark H. Ellisman, Kent R. Wilson
We introduce two‐photon image correlation spectroscopy (ICS) using a video rate
capable multiphoton microscope. We demonstrate how video rate two‐photon
microscopic imaging and image correlation analysis may be combined to measure
molecular transport properties over ranges typical of biomolecules in membrane
environments. Using two‐photon ICS, we measured diffusion coefficients as large
as 10−8 cm... hiện toàn bộ
Optical patterning in azobenzene polymer filmsJournal of Microscopy - Tập 219 Số 3 - Trang 109-114 - 2005
Burkhard Stiller, Thomas Geue, Knut Morawetz, Marina Saphiannikova
SummaryThin azobenzene polymer films show a very unusual property, namely
optically induced material transport. The underlying physics for this phenomenon
has not yet been thoroughly explained. Nevertheless, this effect enables one to
inscribe different patterns onto film surfaces, including one‐ and
two‐dimensional periodic structures. Typical sizes of such structures are of the
order of micromet... hiện toàn bộ
An investigation into microstructure and particle distribution of Ni–P/diamond composite thin filmsJournal of Microscopy - Tập 185 Số 2 - Trang 283-291 - 1997
Benedetto Bozzini, G. Giovannelli, Pietro Luigi Cavallotti
The present paper deals with a theoretical and experimental study of the
co‐deposition of spheroidal particles in a metal matrix deposited by
autocatalytic chemical deposition (ACD). The 3‐D particle size distribution — as
measured by image analysis of SEM micrographs of metallographic cross‐sections —
is related to the size distribution of the starting powder — as measured by
photon autocorrelati... hiện toàn bộ
Application of back‐scattered electron imaging to the study of the lichen‐rock interfaceJournal of Microscopy - Tập 175 Số 1 - Trang 54-59 - 1994
Jacek Wierzchoś, Carmen Ascaso
SummaryIn the study of the lichen‐rock interface, light microscopy, scanning
electron microscopy (SEM) in secondary emission mode and transmission electron
microscopy are the most commonly used techniques. As these methods have some
limitations, there is a need to explore other techniques for observation of the
lichen‐substrate interface. One of the most promising methods is the application
of SEM... hiện toàn bộ
A new preparation method to study fresh plant structures with X‐ray computed tomographyJournal of Microscopy - Tập 233 Số 1 - Trang 1-4 - 2009

SummarySince the development of X‐ray computed tomography as a medical
diagnostic tool, it was adapted and extended for many scientific applications,
including plant structure research. As for many biological studies, sample
preparation is of major importance to obtain good‐quality images. Therefore, we
present a new preparation method for fresh material which includes critical
point drying and he... hiện toàn bộ
