Single crystals of the laser host material Sc2SiO5 as well as thulium- (4 at.-%) and ytterbium- (5 at.-%) doped samples were prepared by the Czochralski technique. Two new mexicanolides, named xyloccensins X1 and X2 (1 - 2), were isolated from the fruit of the Chinese mangrove Xylocarpus granatum. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopical data, especially 2D NMR techniques including HSQC, HMBC, and NOESY.

The amino acid sequence of TMV strain vulgare (common strain) was partly reinvestigated with recently modified methods. The results show a reversion of the amino acid sequence of position 44 with 45 and position 125 with 126. An additional amide group was found in position 126, but positions 95 and 106 are free dicarboxylic acids.
