New water-soluble conjugates of protohemin IX with an anionic 1-carba-closo-dodecaborate polyhedron and L-amino acids have been synthesized. In these compounds, the amino acid residues are bound to the porphyrin ring through the amide or ester bond. The new water-soluble amino acid derivatives of boronated protohemin IX show high antitumor activity for human tumor cell lines.

A convenient method for the synthesis of di(β-haloalkyl)sulfides based on the reaction of unsaturated compounds with the thiobisamine-SOHal2 (Hal = Cl, Br) system was created. The reaction proceeds through an electrophilic mechanism with the formation of trans-addition products. Reactions with alkynes result in the formation of a mixture of regioisomeric divinyl sulfides.

Cairo tiling, one of fifteen Laves regular nets, is the prototype of numerous water nets made of hydrogen bonds in crystalline hydrates. In this work, topological comparison of idealized and corrugated Cairo tilings is performed; their critical coordination numbers are calculated.

The IR and 1H NMR spectra of 2-thienyl-N-methylfulleropyrrolidine are studied. The complete interpretation of the spectra is carried out on the basis of density functional theory calculations. Conformational composition is analyzed by means of both computational and experimental methods.
