2/spl times/2 all-optical exchange-bypass switch

We demonstrate an optically addressable 2/spl times/2 exchange-bypass switch operating with 10 Gbps data packets. Switching is achieved in an optical amplifier gate and the performance of the device is independent of packet length and content.

GaAs-based tunnel junctions for micro-cavity devices

The development of high quality GaAs-based tunnel junctions grown by MBE was systematically studied. Fabricated Si/Be-doped GaAs tunnel junctions show record low junction resistance. The enhancement of lateral current spreading is demonstrated.

Experimental analysis of cross gain modulation and cross phase modulation in SOA with assist light injection

A simple analysis technique of cross gain modulation and cross phase modulation in SOA using delayed interferometer configuration was proposed. Recovery time and the amounts of XGM and XPM were measured in assist light injected SOA.

Summary form only given. We designed and fabricated the hybrid integrated CMOS-VCSEL multiple chip modules. The VCSEL operate at 850nm wavelength. A typical VCSEL has a threshold current of 4 mA, and quantum efficiency of 0.3 mW/mA. Operating at 8 mA modulation current, the VCSEL 3-dB modulation bandwidth was measured more than 5 GHz.

Fast and efficient WDM network protection using p-cycles

p-Cycles are preconfigured protection cycles for meshed networks. A p-cycle protects on-cycle links, and off-cycle links having p-cycle nodes as endpoints. For WDM-networks, p-cycles can provide fast protection switching times and achieve high resource efficiency.
