Regional Bipolarization: The Case of the European UnionInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research - Tập 29 Số 4 - Trang 984-995 - 2005
Roberto Ezcurra, Carlos Gil, Pedro Pascual
This study examines the degree of bipolarization of regional per capita income
distribution in the European Union between 1977 and 1999. The results obtained
reveal a decrease in regional bipolarization in the European context over the
study period as a consequence of various factors working in opposite directions.
Likewise, the analysis carried out shows that the national component is the main

Permitting Protest: Parsing the Fine Geography of Dissent in AmericaInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research - Tập 29 Số 4 - Trang 796-813 - 2005
Don Mitchell, Lynn A. Staeheli
The ability to dissent and to protest is a cornerstone of western liberal
democracies. But dissent always threatens to exceed its bounds and to become a
threat. The issue facing liberal states, then, has not only been how to
incorporate dissent, but also how to shape dissent. In this project, the
politics of public space has assumed a central role, as material public spaces
have become a primary v... hiện toàn bộ
Access to Housing in Urban ChinaInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research - Tập 33 Số 4 - Trang 914-935 - 2009
John Logan, Yiping Fang, Zhan‐Xin Zhang
AbstractLike income inequality, housing inequality in urban China is strongly
affected by state policies that give preferential treatment to insiders. In this
case, the key policies are related to their residence status, which involves not
only their migration history but also their legal position. Using data from the
Chinese census of 2000 for eight large cities, this study shows how residence

Motility: mobility as capitalInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research - Tập 28 Số 4 - Trang 745-756 - 2004
Vincent Kaufmann, Manfred Max Bergman, Dominique Joye
Social and territorial structures form intricate relations that transcend a
social stratification or spatial focus. Territorial features and geographic
displacements are structuring principles for society, as societal features and
social change effect the structure and use of territory. Based on our
examination of the conceptual and theoretical links between spatial and social
mobility, we propose... hiện toàn bộ
Housing inequality in urban China in the 1990sInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research - Tập 23 Số 1 - Trang 7-25 - 1999
John Logan, Yanjie Bian, Fuqin Bian
Access to housing of sufficient space and quality has been a central element in
social stratification in urban China. We examine the sources of housing
inequality in 1993 in Shanghai and Tianjin, when a market reform process had
been underway in the national economy for nearly fifteen years. The Chinese
housing allocation system favors people with political position and connections,
those of highe... hiện toàn bộ
Social and Spatial Implications of Housing Reform in ChinaInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research - Tập 24 Số 2 - Trang 397-417 - 2000
Ya Ping Wang, Alan Murie
Research into eastern European housing reform indicates that privatization has
been accompanied by processes of social and physical exclusion and segregation.
Has the Chinese housing reform been accompanied by similar problems? This paper
addresses this question by examining the early evidence on the social and
spatial consequences of housing reform. It begins with a discussion of the
particular s... hiện toàn bộ
Constructing premium network spaces: reflections on infrastructure networks and contemporary urban developmentInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research - Tập 24 Số 1 - Trang 183-200 - 2000
Stephen Graham
This article argues that standardized, public or private infrastructure
monopolies are receding as hegemonic forms of urban infrastructure development.
We are starting to witness the uneven overlaying of new, customized,
high‐performance urban infrastructures onto the apparently immanent, universal
and (usually) public monopoly networks laid down in developed cities between the
1930s and 1960s. Th... hiện toàn bộ
Placing the Urban Village: A Spatial Perspective on the Development Process of Urban Villages in Contemporary ChinaInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research - Tập 39 Số 5 - Trang 927-947 - 2015
Dror Kochan
AbstractThe rapid urbanization of China since the mid‐1980s has led to the
development of a new spatial category, the urban village (chengzhongcun). The
dominant neoliberal urban development regime approaches urban villages as a
social, spatial, economic and political problem, and as targets for aggressive
redevelopment and eradication policies. In this article, I propose a spatial
perspective tha... hiện toàn bộ
