We report high-energy milling of macrocrystalline nonstoichiometric cubic
vanadium monoxide (VO y ) powder in a planetary ball mill lined with stabilized
zirconia. The results indicate that milling of macrocrystalline VO y powder at
500 rpm for more than 2 h considerably broadens diffraction line profiles, with
no changes in the crystal structure of the vanadium monoxide, VO1.00.

The electrical resistivity and Hall coefficient of n-type CdAs2crystals cut
along [001] and [100] were measured at hydrostatic pressures in the range 0–9
GPa. The ρ(P) and R H(P) curves for the [001] direction show three peaks at 1.8,
3, and 5.5 GPa. In the [100] direction, the curves show two peaks at 3 and 5.5
GPa. The peaks at 1.8 and 3 GPa are likely related to impurity levels. The peak

SmS x materials with x = 0.8–1.5 are synthesized, and their electrical
properties are studied in order to ascertain whether they can be used in
thermoelectric converters. The results indicate that the optimal composition is
SmS0.96, with a thermoelectric figure of merit Z ∼ 0.9 × 10–3 K–1 at 1000 K. The

The effect of neutron irradiation on the properties of diamond crystals prepared
in the Mn–Ni–C system (5.5 GPa, 1620–1670 K, 120–300 s) was studied. The results
indicate that irradiation increases the strength of the crystals and reduces the
concentration of paramagnetic centers. The observed changes are interpreted in
terms of interaction between intrinsic defects and impurities.
