In this paper, we summarize our cumulative work on neutron reflectivity studies of polystyrene-poly(vinyl-2-pyridine) (PS-PVP) and polystyrene-polyethylene oxide (PS-PEO) adsorbed at a quartz-solvent interface. The results of a X-ray diffraction study, performed on N(p-n-pentyloxy benzylidene)p′-n-octylaniline (50.8) and N(p-n-pentyloxy benzylidene)p′-n-decylaniline (50.10) are presented. The investigated compounds exhibit smecticB, smecticA and nematic phases in between solid and isotropic liquid phases. Intrinsic absorptive bistability and hysteresis cycles in a steady-state regime are obtained at microwave frequencies. A theory is presented which takes into account the Gaussian shape of the fundamental mode excited into the resonator and is compared with the experimental results.

By Mössbauer spectroscopy we investigated some talc, chloritoschist and micaschist samples drawn from the biggest Paleozoic talc deposit in Sardinia, Italy. Compared to results of previous chemical analyses some discrepancies exist. Data show the high degree of chloritization of neighbouring micaschist. This material exhibits the presence of primary ilmenite.
