The Effect of Group Decision Making on Cooperation in Social DilemmasGroup Processes and Intergroup Relations - Tập 8 Số 1 - Trang 89-100 - 2005
Tim Hopthrow, Wing Tung Au
A robust finding in social dilemma research is an increase in individual
cooperative choice following group discussion about the dilemma. To elaborate
the idea that this effect arises from the development of within-group consensus,
groups of six made explicit group decisions about their subsequent individual
choice. Perceived demonstrability of cooperativeness in the dilemma was
manipulated throug... hiện toàn bộ
Prospects for Group Processes and Intergroup Relations Research: A Review of 70 Years' ProgressGroup Processes and Intergroup Relations - Tập 11 Số 4 - Trang 575-596 - 2008
Georgina Randsley de Moura, Tirza Leader, Joseph Pelletier, Dominic Abrams
Three archival analyses are presented substantially extending empirical reviews
of the progress of group-related research. First, an analysis of social
psychological research from 1935 to 2007 (cf. Abrams & Hogg, 1998) showed that
group-related research has a steadily increasing proportion of titles in the
principal journals and currently accounts for over a sixth of all the research
in our list o... hiện toàn bộ
Riding the ‘O’ Train: Comparing the Effects of Ostracism and Verbal Dispute on Targets and SourcesGroup Processes and Intergroup Relations - Tập 8 Số 2 - Trang 125-143 - 2005
Lisa Zadro, Kipling D. Williams, Rick Richardson
In the present study we examined the effects of social ostracism (being excluded
and ignored in the presence of others) on those who ostracize (sources) and
those who are ostracized (targets). Unlike previous research that compared
ostracism to social inclusion, the present study also compared ostracism to
verbal dispute (i.e. an argument). A role-play method was used such that
participants acted ... hiện toàn bộ
The Silent Treatment: Perceptions of its Behaviors and Associated FeelingsGroup Processes and Intergroup Relations - Tập 1 Số 2 - Trang 117-141 - 1998
Kipling D. Williams, Wendelyn J. Shore, Jon Grahe
Asked to list specific behaviors that occur when they give or receive the
`silent treatment,' undergraduates then wrote down the feeling associated with
each behavior. Independent raters in Study 1, and participants in Study 2, coded
the entries according to taxonomic dimensions for the behaviors and threatened
needs for the feelings, finding support for Williams's (1997) Model of
Ostracism. Speci... hiện toàn bộ
A shared dual identity promotes a cardiovascular challenge response during interethnic interactionsGroup Processes and Intergroup Relations - Tập 17 Số 3 - Trang 324-341 - 2014
Daan Scheepers, Tamar Saguy, John F. Dovidio, Samuel L. Gaertner
We examined the influence of the social identity representation of an ethnic
majority-group member on physiological responses during interactions with an
ethnic minority-group member. Before engaging in a collaborative task with a
Moroccan-Dutch confederate, native Dutch participants studied the advantages of
a “one-group” representation that emphasizes their common Dutch nationality or a
“dual id... hiện toàn bộ
Differential Evaluation of Crossed Category Groups: Patterns, Processes, and Reducing Intergroup BiasGroup Processes and Intergroup Relations - Tập 2 Số 4 - Trang 307-333 - 1999
Richard J. Crisp, Miles Hewstone
Previous meta-analytic reviews of the literature on crossed categorization have
uncovered a number of important findings; however, several questions remain
unanswered and may best be tackled using a more traditional narrative approach.
This review of the literature on crossed categorization divides studies into
those that are relevant to (a) which pattern of evaluation prevails in multiple
categor... hiện toàn bộ
Intergroup bias toward “Group X”: Evidence of prejudice, dehumanization, avoidance, and discrimination against asexualsGroup Processes and Intergroup Relations - Tập 15 Số 6 - Trang 725-743 - 2012
Cara C. MacInnis, Gordon Hodson
Although biases against homosexuals (and bisexuals) are well established,
potential biases against a largely unrecognized sexual minority group, asexuals,
has remained uninvestigated. In two studies (university student and community
samples) we examined the extent to which those not desiring sexual activity are
viewed negatively by heterosexuals. We provide the first empirical evidence of
intergro... hiện toàn bộ
The Effects of Intragroup Interaction and Cohesion on Intergroup BiasGroup Processes and Intergroup Relations - Tập 7 Số 2 - Trang 107-118 - 2004
Lars‐Eric Petersen, Joerg Dietz, Dieter Frey
The current study investigated the effects of intragroup interaction and
cohesion on intergroup bias in a minimal group setting. As expected, interacting
groups displayed a stronger intergroup bias than did individual group members
acting in isolation. Moreover, there was a tendency for cohesive groups to show
more intergroup bias than did groups formed on an ad hoc basis. Additional
analyses show... hiện toàn bộ
