Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (M. hyopneumoniae) is one of the smallest free-living bacteria found in nature; it has an extremely small genome and lacks a cell wall. It is the main etiological agent of porcine enzootic pneumonia (EP), a chronic respiratory disease with worldwide distribution that causes significant losses in swine production. Due to the great economic impact caused by EP, new strategi...... hiện toàn bộ
Multidrug-resistant mcr-1 gene-positive Klebsiella pneumoniae ST307 causing urinary tract infection in a catBrazilian Journal of Microbiology - Tập 52 - Trang 1043-1046 - 2021

The Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) bacterium is responsible for many opportunistic infections such as sepsis, and a multidrug-resistant (MDR) clone sequence type (ST) 307 has recently begun to spread. The objective of this study was to report the first occurrence of this virulent genotype, which was found in the context of a urinary infection in a domestic feline in Brazil. The K. pneumonia...... hiện toàn bộ

The seroprevalence of hepatitis E virus (HEV) in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) is little known in Brazil. Studies have suggested that HEV may harmfully influence the course of CLD, with a higher risk of progression to cirrhosis. To estimate the prevalence of the anti-HEV antibody (IgG) in patients with CLD and to describe demographic data and risk factors, as well as clinical-laborator...... hiện toàn bộ
Potentially pathogenic bacteria isolated from Paipa cheese and its susceptibility profiles to antibiotics and biocidesBrazilian Journal of Microbiology - Tập 52 - Trang 1535-1543 - 2021

The objective of this work was to evaluate the microbiological quality of cheese produced by formal and informal micro-enterprises in Paipa, Colombia, to isolate potentially pathogenic bacteria and to determine their prevalence and resistance to antimicrobials such as antibiotics and biocides. Sixteen micro-enterprises of the seventy existing in the region were sampled during 3 years. Viable conce...... hiện toàn bộ
First report of meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus harboring mecC gene in milk samples from cows with mastitis in southeastern BrazilBrazilian Journal of Microbiology - Tập 51 - Trang 2175-2179 - 2020

MRSA infection and colonization have been reported in both companion and food-chain animals, highlighting MRSA as an important veterinary and zoonotic pathogen. Another mec allele, the mecC gene, also confers beta-lactam resistance in Staphylococcus aureus and shows 69% nucleotide identity to mecA. The main aim of this study was to investigate the genotypic and clonal profile of methicillin-resist...... hiện toàn bộ

Canine distemper outbreak and coinfections in three giant anteaters and in a maned wolf has been described. Three giant anteaters developed respiratory and digestive clinical signs after the introduction of a maned wolf to a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. The maned wolf and two anteaters died, and one anteater was euthanized. Post mortem and histopathologic exams revealed lesions associated with ...... hiện toàn bộ
