Trong bài báo này, tôi mô tả những nghịch lý của việc làm bác sĩ-dân tộc học trong hệ thống chăm sóc sức khỏe của nhà tù Rikers Island trước và vào đầu đại dịch COVID-19 vào tháng 4 năm 2020. Hệ thống nhà tù Rikers Island ở thành phố New York đã được đưa ra ánh sáng toàn quốc như một không gian của bạo lực, chấn thương và cái chết trong bối cảnh những lời kêu gọi giảm bớt giam giữ từ các thành viên trong cộng đồng và những người ủng hộ việc bãi bỏ.
