Kích thước tinh hoàn, phát triển cơ quan sinh dục và trạng thái trưởng thành của lông mu đã được so sánh ở 60 bé trai từ 6 đến 15 tuổi với sự bài tiết LH, estrogen và testosterone. Sự gia tăng kích thước tinh hoàn cũng như bài tiết estrogen được ghi nhận bắt đầu từ năm thứ 9-10, trong khi sự bài tiết testosterone tăng lên từ năm thứ 10-11. Phát triển cơ quan sinh dục bắt đầu từ năm thứ 11-12, và một năm sau đó, trạng thái trưởng thành của lông mu cũng được tăng lên.
