Các dung dịch lỏng ion đã được phát hiện có ứng dụng rộng rãi như là phụ gia bôi trơn nhờ vào các tính chất vật lý độc đáo của chúng, cũng như khả năng giảm ma sát và chống mài mòn mạnh mẽ. Trong nghiên cứu này, bốn ví dụ về 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undecane-7-ene–dựa trên axit organophosphoric đã được tổng hợp thông qua quá trình trung hòa đơn giản và được đánh giá như là phụ gia bôi trơn trong PAO-10. Những dung dịch lỏng ion độc đáo này với cấu trúc dianionic và dicationic trong một phân tử có thể đạt được giảm tối đa 60% hệ số ma sát và 83% thể tích mài mòn. Sau một chuỗi thử nghiệm bao gồm góc tiếp xúc, ECR, SEM, EDS và XPS, đã xác nhận rằng màng hấp phụ vật lý và màng phản ứng hóa học được tạo ra trong quá trình ma sát có trách nhiệm cho các hiệu suất trị ma sát xuất sắc. Ngoài việc tổng hợp đơn giản và khả năng trị ma sát vượt trội, quy trình tinh chế thuận tiện và chi phí thấp cùng nhau tạo nên tiềm năng lớn cho loại phụ gia dung dịch lỏng ion mạnh mẽ này trong ứng dụng công nghiệp.
