Tóm tắt

An analysis of the detailed earthquake catalog of the region located in the Naryn River basin, Central and South Tien Shan is performed. Important features of the region include the high-head Kurpsai and Toktogul hydroelectric power plants of the Naryn cascade, with very large reservoirs. The analysis was aimed at determining the causes of the diurnal periodicity of earthquakes revealed in earlier studies. A clear discrepancy between the patterns of the earthquake diurnal distributions in working days and weekends is found. The phenomenon is usually called the day-off (or weekend) effect. The assumption was made that the effect is caused by presence of quarry blasts in the catalog. However, other hypotheses are also discussed.
