Những phát hiện gần đây cho thấy đại dịch COVID-19 hiện tại có tác động tiêu cực tiềm tàng đến nhiều lĩnh vực trong cuộc sống, bao gồm sức khỏe tình dục. Tuy nhiên, ít thông tin hơn được biết về các khía cạnh tâm lý có thể hoạt động như các yếu tố dễ tổn thương/bảo vệ cho sự phát triển các vấn đề tình dục trong đại dịch hiện tại. Nghiên cứu hiện tại đã sử dụng thiết kế dọc để kiểm tra vai trò của các yếu tố tính cách (tính nhạy cảm, tính hướng ngoại) cũng như các yếu tố tâm lý tình dục (niềm tin tình dục) trong việc dự đoán chức năng tình dục và sự khó khăn tình dục theo thời gian trong suốt cuộc khủng hoảng đại dịch này. Tổng cộng có 528 cá nhân (337 phụ nữ) đã hoàn thành một khảo sát trực tuyến đánh giá các chỉ số sức khỏe tình dục và các yếu tố tâm lý. Cuộc khảo sát lần thứ nhất được thực hiện trong thời gian phong tỏa ở Bồ Đào Nha (N = 528) từ tháng 5 đến tháng 6 năm 2020 và lần thứ hai bốn tháng sau đó (N = 146), khi các quy tắc phong tỏa nghiêm ngặt đã kết thúc. Các phương trình ước lượng tổng quát (GEE) đã được sử dụng để xem xét khả năng của các yếu tố tâm lý trong việc dự đoán chức năng tình dục và sự khó khăn theo thời gian, trong khi kiểm soát độ tuổi và giới tính. Kết quả cho thấy sự khó khăn tình dục tại thời điểm 2 thấp hơn so với trong thời gian phong tỏa, và nam giới có mức chức năng tình dục thấp hơn sau phong tỏa trong khi không có sự khác biệt đáng kể nào được quan sát ở phụ nữ. Ngoài ra, mức độ nhạy cảm cao hơn và niềm tin liên quan đến tuổi tác dự đoán đáng kể chức năng tình dục thấp hơn cũng như sự khó khăn tình dục cao hơn, trong khi mức độ hướng ngoại thấp hơn dự đoán chức năng tình dục thấp hơn sau khi kiểm soát cho ảnh hưởng của tuổi và giới tính. Các phát hiện hỗ trợ vai trò của các yếu tố dễ tổn thương tâm lý trong việc dự đoán các vấn đề tình dục theo thời gian và có thể có những ý nghĩa quan trọng trong việc phòng ngừa và điều trị các rối loạn tình dục.
