De Society for Psychotherapy Research (
SPR
) werd in 1968 opgericht als een onafhankelijke internationale organisatie gericht op het wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar psychotherapie. Het doel van de SPR, zoals omschreven door Shapiro in zijn ‘presidential address’ op de conferentie in York, is: een empirische basis verkrijgen voor de hulpverlening en veranderingsprocessen beter begrijpen.
