Mức độ polyamine đã được nghiên cứu ở những bệnh nhân khối u não. Chúng tôi tập trung vào mối quan hệ giữa khối u, dịch não tủy (CSF) và mức độ polyamine trong hồng cầu (RBC). Kết quả của chúng tôi như sau: (1) Mức độ polyamine trong CSF luôn tăng lên, bất kể kiểu mô học là gì. (2) Nồng độ khối u cao nhất được tìm thấy trong các trường hợp u tủy (medulloblastomas). (3) Trong các u nguyên bào thần kinh đệm (glioblastomas), mức độ spermidine trong hồng cầu cao hơn so với các loại khối u khác và có mối tương quan có ý nghĩa thống kê cao giữa tỷ lệ spermidine/spermine trong khối u và RBC. Do đó, việc xác định mức độ polyamine trong RBC có thể có ý nghĩa lâm sàng trong việc theo dõi bệnh nhân có khối u nguyên bào thần kinh đệm.
