Virus hội chứng sinh sản và hô hấp ở heo (PRRSV) là một tác nhân gây bệnh có ý nghĩa kinh tế lớn, ảnh hưởng đến ngành chăn nuôi heo toàn cầu. Kể từ báo cáo đầu tiên về một đợt bùng phát hội chứng sinh sản và hô hấp ở heo (PRRS), đã có rất nhiều nỗ lực nhằm kiểm soát căn bệnh này, bao gồm các chính sách và kế hoạch cấp quốc gia khác nhau sử dụng nhiều loại vaccine virus sống đã được sửa đổi. Tuy nhiên, PRRSV vẫn là một mối đe dọa lớn đối với ngành chăn nuôi heo, và các biến thể mới liên tục xuất hiện như một kết quả của sự tiến hóa của PRRSV.
