Tóm tắt

The electromechanical reciprocity relation is interpreted through application to a model problem, the reflection and transmission of ultrasound at a thin layer. The results for this simple problem illustrate how the reciprocity formalism allows the effects of transducer efficiency and phase, ultrasonic propagation to and from the flaw, and ultrasonic interaction with the flaw to be systematically included in a description of the total measurement response. The importance of such descriptions in the separation of the measurement system and flaw contributions to laboratory observations is discussed, and a number of examples where this approach has been applied to more complex measurement geometries are cited by reference.
