Lợn cái phản ứng nhạy cảm với cả DON và ZEN với tình trạng chán ăn và rối loạn nội tiết, tương ứng, khi nồng độ trong chế độ ăn vượt quá mức giới hạn. Do đó, sự ô nhiễm đồng thời thường gặp của thức ăn bởi DON và ZEN yêu cầu phải khử hoạt tính đồng thời của chúng. Phụ gia cộng thêm ZenA phân giải ZEN trong khi SBS khử hoạt tính DON thông qua sulfon hóa. Cả hai phụ gia này đã được bổ sung đồng thời (+, 2,5 g SBS và 100 U ZenA/kg) vào chế độ ăn kiểm soát (CON−, 0,04 mg DON và < 0,004 mg ZEN/kg; CON+, 0,03 mg DON và < 0,004 mg ZEN/kg) và chế độ ăn bị nhiễm độc tố Fusarium (FUS−, 2,57 mg DON và 0,24 mg ZEN/kg; FUS+, 2,04 mg DON và 0,24 mg ZEN/kg). Tổng cộng 4 chế độ ăn này đã được cho 20 lợn con cai sữa (cân nặng ban đầu 6 kg) trong 35 ngày; lợn con sau đó bị hiến sinh để thu thập mẫu. Các phụ gia đã cải thiện hiệu suất và thay đổi quá trình chuyển hóa cũng như huyết học không phụ thuộc vào ô nhiễm DON trong chế độ ăn. Cơ chế đứng sau những thay đổi này chưa được làm rõ và cần phải xem xét thêm. SBS đã giảm nồng độ DON trong thức ăn khoảng 20% và cũng ở mức tương tự trong huyết tương và nước tiểu, cho thấy rằng không có sự hình thành sulfonate DON nào thêm vào trong ống tiêu hóa trước khi hấp thụ DON trong ống tiêu hóa trên hoặc rằng các sulfonate DON được hình thành thêm đã thoát khỏi sự hấp thụ.
