Khả năng tiếp cận dịch vụ y tế đối với sinh viên khuyết tật là một vấn đề toàn cầu. Điều này không kém phần quan trọng ở Ghana, tuy nhiên, cho đến nay, chưa có nghiên cứu nào được thực hiện liên quan đến khả năng tiếp cận dịch vụ y tế cho sinh viên khuyết tật. Do đó, nghiên cứu này nhằm khám phá khả năng tiếp cận dịch vụ y tế đối với sinh viên khuyết tật, với mục tiêu đạt được sự bao phủ sức khỏe toàn cầu ở Ghana. Các phương pháp định tính, bao gồm phỏng vấn sâu, đã được sử dụng để thu thập dữ liệu từ 54 người tham gia (29 sinh viên khuyết tật, 17 nhân viên y tế và 8 phụ huynh học sinh), được chọn thông qua mẫu có chủ đích. Phân tích chủ đề đã được sử dụng để phân tích dữ liệu. Nghiên cứu đã xác định ba chủ đề – khả năng tiếp cận, sự đầy đủ và khả năng chi trả. Kết quả nghiên cứu nhấn mạnh rằng sự bao phủ sức khỏe toàn cầu cho sinh viên khuyết tật chưa được đạt được do những rào cản trong việc tiếp cận dịch vụ y tế. Những rào cản mà sinh viên khuyết tật đối mặt bao gồm môi trường vật lý không thân thiện, cơ sở hạ tầng, thiết bị, dịch vụ hỗ trợ hạn chế và chính sách bảo hiểm y tế kém để tài trợ cho chăm sóc sức khỏe. Nghiên cứu kết luận rằng chính phủ nên ưu tiên các vấn đề liên quan đến khuyết tật trong quá trình xây dựng, thực hiện và giám sát chính sách y tế. Các quy định và yêu cầu hiện tại trong luật khuyết tật cần được ưu tiên, thực thi và giám sát để đảm bảo có đủ sự tham gia của các vấn đề khuyết tật trong dịch vụ y tế. Hơn nữa, chính sách miễn trừ hiện tại theo Chương trình Bảo hiểm Y tế Quốc gia cần được xem xét lại để giải quyết đầy đủ nhu cầu của người khuyết tật.
