Acetyl hóa histone tham gia vào việc điều chỉnh biểu hiện của các gen trong thực vật và sinh vật nhân chuẩn. Các histone deacetylase (HDACs) là các enzyme xúc tác cho việc loại bỏ các nhóm acetyl khỏi histone, điều này liên quan đến việc ức chế biểu hiện gen. Để nghiên cứu vai trò của acetyl hóa histone trong việc điều chỉnh biểu hiện gen trong quá trình nảy mầm hạt, trichostatin A (TSA), một chất ức chế đặc hiệu của histone deacetylase, đã được sử dụng để xử lý hạt Arabidopsis thaliana đang ngâm. Các mảng GeneChip được sử dụng để chỉ ra rằng TSA kích thích tăng cường biểu hiện của 45 gen và giảm biểu hiện của 27 gen trong quá trình nảy mầm.
