Nghiên cứu hiện tại thảo luận về bản chất phức tạp của thuật ngữ ‘giới’ trong diễn ngôn pháp lý, trong bối cảnh những phản ứng gần đây mà Công ước Istanbul 2011 đã nhận được từ các phong trào chống nữ quyền và các quốc gia không ký/công nhận tài liệu hoặc đã rút lại. Mặc dù mục đích ban đầu của nó là bảo vệ quyền lợi của phụ nữ, cuộc tranh luận cuối cùng đã nêu bật những vấn đề sâu sắc liên quan đến từ vựng liên quan đến giới.
