JUNE 1991 showed the maximum concentration. The median concentration for the cases was at the maximum -that is, 90 jg/ml whereas that for the controls, 3-6[tg/ml, was below the cut off value for positivity. A nonparametric rank test'6 showed that the cases had significantly higher antibody concentrations than the controls (p<001). The table shows the proportion of cases and controls defined as positive for H pylori antibody, together with the estimated odds ratio based on a matched-analysis. The overall odds ratio was significant, at 2-77 (95% confidence interval 1-04 to 7 97) (two sided p=0039).
