Sự phát triển của một chương trình tham vấn sức khỏe tâm thần cho một cộng đồng dân cư Ấn Độ vừa cách biệt về mặt địa lý vừa có nguồn lực cộng đồng hạn chế đặt ra nhiều thách thức lớn. Điều đầu tiên là đàm phán thành công hợp đồng tham vấn với nhiều cấp chính phủ liên quan đến các vấn đề sức khỏe của người dân tộc Ấn Độ. Thứ hai là lựa chọn cách tiếp cận cộng đồng sao cho đạt được sự công nhận và chấp nhận từ cộng đồng. Thứ ba là cần thiết phải cung cấp một số dịch vụ trực tiếp để hoạt động song song với các dịch vụ gián tiếp của tham vấn. Thứ tư, cần phải thực hiện một phương pháp đánh giá chương trình có hệ thống để ngăn chặn sự củng cố sớm của công việc tham vấn và cung cấp hướng dẫn cho các thay đổi và phát triển chương trình cần thiết.
