A family survey was conducted among 909 patients with leukaemia of all types, with the purpose of establishing the incidence of further cases of leukaemia among relatives.Among a total of 41,807 relatives 8,349 were deceased, and the cause of death was objectively confirmed in 5,011.72 patients had one or more relatives with leukaemia. First degree relativ...... hiện toàn bộ
Eight commercial heparin preparations were examined by the method of Born & Cross. All preparations induced aggregation of washed human platelets in the presence of calcium, probably by inducing release of platelet ADP. The aggregating potency varied considerably from brand to brand.
The value of preoperative haemostatic screening tests in prediction of surgical bleeding was examined in 101 patients, mainly with abdominal and thyroid lesions. The study demonstrated complete lack of correlation between the preoperative evaluation of bleeding risk and the observed surgical bleeding (X2 test P ∼ 0.85).
In six cases of the cold haemagglutinin syndrome, the isolated cold haemagglutinin was electrophoretically markedly homogeneous when compared with the total γ1‐macroglobulin of the same sera and consisted of group I molecules only. In three of the cases, individually specific antigenic determinants were demonstrated on the isolated cold haemagglutinin. These determinan...... hiện toàn bộ

The authors describe the haematologic findings in a man aged 61, who for two years has been under observation with a syndrome of thrombocytopenia, regularly alternating with thrombocytosis of a very regular interval of 39 days. This tidal fluctuation of the platelet counts was within the range 10,000–900,000/μl. There was a synchronous fluctuation of the megakaryocyte numbers in the bone m...... hiện toàn bộ
A patient with cyclic changes in circulating platelet level is reported, and the literature on this cyclic phenomenon is discussed. Platelet and menstrual cycles occurred independently. In our patient and several others reviewed herein, the cycling of the platelet level is probably related to cyclic changes in platelet production. We speculate that these production changes result from the ...... hiện toàn bộ

36 acute leukaemias in children, 24 lymphoblastic and 14 myelogenic, have been examined with a set of 10 monoclonal antibodies by indirect fluorescent staining. In the lymphoblastic group the leukaemic cells of 4 children were found to have T‐cell phenotype, while 19 of the other 20 T‐cell phenotype negative cases were found to be positive for the c‐ALL antigen. All 20 were negative for su...... hiện toàn bộ
The authors report a patient treated for 3 years with chlorambucil for scleroderma. This apparently produced a preleukaemic sideroblastic anaemia and acute leukemia. This point out the consequences of the employment of immunodepressive agents.
In a case of cold agglutinin syndrome, treatment with melphalan resulted in marked decrease of cold agglutinin titre, decrease in concentration of monoclonal cold agglutinin IgM, and concomitant clinical improvement with increased cold tolerance. After 27 months of melphalan treatment, the patient developed acute erythroleukaemia.
This is a case report on a male technician, 37 years of age, who experienced 5 acute episodes of severe thrombocytopenia, which occurred regularly every 21st day. The bleeding episodes usually lasted 12 days, and the remissions 9 days. Treatment with corticosteroids and splenectomy had no influence upon the course of the disease. The bleeding became worse at every episode, and the patient ...... hiện toàn bộ
