AbstractThis research used four consecutive waves of data from the National
Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) conducted by the Centers for Disease Control
(CDC), to estimate linear time trends by gender in the prevalence of school and
electronic bullying victimization among U.S. high school students (N = 61,042).
Dependent variables were student self‐reported school bullying victimization and

Development and psychometric evaluation of the exercise benefits/barriers scaleResearch in Nursing and Health - Tập 10 Số 6 - Trang 357-365 - 1987
Karen R. Sechrist, Susan Walker, Nola J. Pender
AbstractInitial psychometric evaluation of an instrument to measure perceived
benefits of exercise and perceived barriers to exercise was based on the
responses of 650 adults and included item analysis, factor analysis, and
reliability measures. Factor analysis yielded nine factors, five benefits and
four barriers, which explained 64.9% of the variance in the 43‐item instrument.

Psychometric assessment of the quality of life indexResearch in Nursing and Health - Tập 15 Số 1 - Trang 29-38 - 1992
Carol Estwing Ferrans, Marjorie J. Powers
AbstractThe purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of
the Quality of Life Index (QLI) (Ferrans & Powers, 1985). The sample consisted
of 349 patients selected randomly from the adult, in‐unit hemodialysis patient
population of Illinois. Factor analysis was used to examine the underlying
factor structure. A four‐factor solution best fit the data, indicating that
there were ... hiện toàn bộ
Kappa muddles together two sources of disagreement: Tetrachoric correlation is preferableResearch in Nursing and Health - Tập 16 Số 4 - Trang 313-316 - 1993
T. P. Hutchinson
AbstractWhen assessing agreement between experts, it is important to distinguish
between disagreements that can and cannot be explained by different placing of
the boundaries between categories. Cohen's kappa statistic is affected by both
types of disagreement, tetrachoric correlation only by the second. © 1993 John

Considerations in determining sample size for pilot studiesResearch in Nursing and Health - Tập 31 Số 2 - Trang 180-191 - 2008
Melody Hertzog
AbstractThere is little published guidance concerning how large a pilot study
should be. General guidelines, for example using 10% of the sample required for
a full study, may be inadequate for aims such as assessment of the adequacy of
instrumentation or providing statistical estimates for a larger study. This
article illustrates how confidence intervals constructed around a desired or
anticipate... hiện toàn bộ
The stress response of mothers and fathers of preterm infantsResearch in Nursing and Health - Tập 15 Số 4 - Trang 261-269 - 1992
Margaret Shandor Miles, Sandra G. Funk, Mary Ann Kasper
AbstractDifferences in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) environmental stress,
uncertainty, and anxiety of 23 mothers and fathers (couples) whose premature
infants were hospitalized in an NICU were explored. Alterations in the parental
role were found to be stressful for both mothers and fathers, with mothers
reporting significantly greater stress in this area than did fathers. Stress and

Predictors of Attrition Among Rural Breast Cancer SurvivorsResearch in Nursing and Health - Tập 37 Số 1 - Trang 21-31 - 2014

AbstractAttrition can jeopardize both internal and external validity. The goal
of this secondary analysis was to examine predictors of attrition using baseline
data of 432 participants in the Rural Breast Cancer Survivors study. Attrition
predictors were conceptualized based on demographic, social, cancer treatment,
physical health, and mental health characteristics. Baseline measures were

Stress, locus of control, social support, and psychological symptoms among head nursesResearch in Nursing and Health - Tập 13 Số 6 - Trang 393-401 - 1990
Bonnie Mowinski Jennings
AbstractThis study was conducted to evaluate the relationships among work
stress, nonwork stress, locus of control, social support, and head nurses'
psychological symptoms. Data were collected from head nurses (N = 300)
representing all Army hospitals in the United States; 21% of the volunteer
sample were men. The results supported the hypotheses that perceived stress from
both work and nonwork so... hiện toàn bộ
Perceived job stress, job satisfaction, and psychological symptoms in critical care nursingResearch in Nursing and Health - Tập 8 Số 3 - Trang 253-259 - 1985
Jane S. Norbeck
AbstractThis study tested the relationships among perceived job stress, job
satisfaction, and psychological symptoms of critical care nurses. A
self‐administered questionnaire was sent to a sample of 180 critical care nurses
from eight hospitals. The results supported the hypotheses that higher levels of
perceived job stress are related to lower levels of job satisfaction (r = ‐.24,
p = .001) and ... hiện toàn bộ
Randomized controlled trial of SPIRIT: An effective approach to preparing African‐American dialysis patients and families for end of lifeResearch in Nursing and Health - Tập 32 Số 3 - Trang 260-273 - 2009

AbstractThis randomized controlled trial tested an intervention, Sharing
Patients' Illness Representations to Increase Trust (SPIRIT), designed to
enhance communication regarding end‐of‐life care between African Americans with
end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) and their chosen surrogate decision makers
(N = 58 dyads). We used surveys and semi‐structured interviews to determine the
feasibility, accept... hiện toàn bộ
