Abstract Magnoloside A, a novel phenylpropanoid glycoside has been isolated from the MeOH extract of Magnolia obovata and its structure has been elucidated as 3,4-dihydroxy-β-phenyl-ethyl-O-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-3-O-caffeoyl-β-d-allopyranoside by means of spectroscopic and chemical evidences.

Abstract The Raman spectrum of benzoylsulfenyl iodide in ether has been observed for the first time using a high-speed multi-channel Raman spectrometer. The S–I stretching frequency is found to be 387 cm−1, which is useful for the characterization of organosulfur compounds involving the S–I linkage.
