FRACTAL STRUCTURE OF 2d—QUANTUM GRAVITY
Tập 03 Số 08 - Trang 819-826 - 1988
V.G. Knizhnik, A. M. Polyakov, A. B. Zamolodchikov
We resolve renormalization problems, indicated in Ref. 1 and find explicit formulae for the spectrum of anomalous dimensions in 2d—quantum gravity. Comparison with combinatorial approximation of random surfaces and its numerical analyses shows complete agreement with all known facts.
CONFORMAL FIELD THEORIES COUPLED TO 2-D GRAVITY IN THE CONFORMAL GAUGE
Tập 03 Số 17 - Trang 1651-1656 - 1988
François David
The coupling of conformal field theories to 2-d gravity may be studied in the conformal gauge. As an application, the results of Knizhnik, Polyakov and Zamolodchikov for the scaling dimensions of conformal fields are derived in a simple way. Their conjecture for the susceptibility exponent γ of strings is proven and extended to arbitrary genus surfaces. The result agrees with exact result...... hiện toàn bộ
NEW CONNECTIONS BETWEEN STRING THEORIES
Tập 04 Số 21 - Trang 2073-2083 - 1989
Jin Dai, Robert G. Leigh, Joseph Polchinski
We consider the R→0 limit of toroidal compactification in various string theories. This leads to new connections between seemingly different string theories: IIA and IIB, open and closed, oriented and unoriented. We also find two new extended objects which can couple consistently to strings: the Dirichlet-brane and the orientifold plane.
DIRAC-BORN-INFELD ACTION FROM DIRICHLET σ-MODEL
Tập 04 Số 28 - Trang 2767-2772 - 1989
Robert G. Leigh
In a recent paper we discussed, among other things, the effect of duality transformations on the open bosonic string theory. Namely, we conjectured that a macroscopic object, the D-brane, effectively interacts with closed and open string modes in the low energy limit. This conjecture was supported by a string scattering amplitude calculation. In this letter we report on a σ-model calculat...... hiện toàn bộ
FERMI-BOSE TRANSMUTATIONS INDUCED BY GAUGE FIELDS
Tập 03 Số 03 - Trang 325-328 - 1988
A. M. Polyakov
We show that in (2+1)-dimensional abelian gauge theory with the Chern-Simons term in the action, charged particles reverse their statistics.
IS THE t QUARK RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MASS OF W AND Z BOSONS?
Tập 04 Số 11 - Trang 1043-1053 - 1989
V. A. Miransky, Masaharu Tanabashi, Koichi Yamawaki
Based on the dynamical model having a large anomalous dimension γm2, we propose that the t quark condensate is responsible for the mass of W and Z bosons within the framework of the SU (3)C×SU(2)L×U(1)Y gauge theory (without Higgs) plus four-fermion interactions among quarks and lepto...... hiện toàn bộ
EXTREME DYONIC BLACK HOLES IN STRING THEORY
Tập 11 Số 09 - Trang 689-713 - 1996
Arkady A. Tseytlin
Supersymmetric extreme dyonic black holes of toroidally compactified heterotic or type-II string theory can be viewed as lower-dimensional images of solitonic strings wound around a compact dimension. We consider conformal sigma models which describe string configurations corresponding to various extreme dyonic black holes in four and five dimensions. These conformal models have regular s...... hiện toàn bộ
EXTREMAL BLACK HOLES AND ELEMENTARY STRING STATES
Tập 10 Số 28 - Trang 2081-2093 - 1995
Ashoke Sen
Some of the extremal black hole solutions in string theory have the same quantum numbers as the Bogomol’nyi saturated elementary string states. We explore the possibility that these black holes can be identified with elementary string excitations. It is shown that stringy effects could correct the Bekenstein-Hawking formula for the black hole entropy in such a way that it correctly reprod...... hiện toàn bộ
NEW CRITICAL BEHAVIOR IN d = 0 LARGE-N MATRIX MODELS
Tập 05 Số 13 - Trang 1041-1056 - 1990
Sumit R. Das, Avinash Dhar, Anirvan M. Sengupta, Spenta R. Wadia
The non-perturbative formulation of 2-dimensional quantum gravity in terms of the large-N limit of matrix models is studied to include the effects of higher order curvature terms. This leads to matrix models whose potential contains a symmetry breaking term of the form Tr ϕAϕA, where A is a given fixed matrix. This is studied in d = 0 dimensions and effectively induces additional terms of...... hiện toàn bộ
TENSORIAL CENTRAL CHARGES AND NEW SUPERPARTICLE MODELS WITH FUNDAMENTAL SPINOR COORDINATES
Tập 14 Số 19 - Trang 1257-1272 - 1999
Igor A. Bandos, J. Lukierski
We consider firstly simple D=4 superalgebra with six real tensorial central charges Zμν, and discuss its possible realizations in massive and massless cases. Massless case is dynamically realized by generalized Ferber–Shirafuji (FS) model with fundamental bosonic spinor coordinates. The Lorentz invariance is not broken due to the realization of central charges generat...... hiện toàn bộ
