Determinants of entrepreneurial knowledge and information sharing in professional virtual learning communities created using mobile messaging apps
Journal of Global Entrepreneurship Research - - 2021
There is very limited knowledge about the factors that influence entrepreneurial knowledge and information sharing in professional virtual learning communities created using mobile messaging apps. To address this gap, a survey was conducted on 165 members of agricultural entrepreneurship virtual communities created using Viber and WhatsApp. Qualitative data were also gathered through interviews with 30 virtual community members, and were analyzed to provide further understanding of the quantitative findings. Structural equation modeling was used to evaluate the model and the significance of relationships between the constructs. Results indicated that subjective norms affect perceived ease of use, and perceived ease of use directly and indirectly (through perceived usefulness) affect knowledge and information sharing intentions. In addition, perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness indirectly (through the intentions) affect knowledge and information sharing. The findings of qualitative data analysis provided support for the influence of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness on sharing behavior. The qualitative results also revealed that subjective norms, virtual community norms and rules, and leadership play roles in encouraging or discouraging community members to participate in knowledge sharing activities. This study confirmed the validity of the technology acceptance (TAM) model for explaining knowledge and information sharing within professional virtual learning communities on mobile messaging apps, particularly when the model includes subjective norms. The current study contributes to the literature on knowledge sharing in virtual communities by focusing on virtual learning communities created using mobile messaging apps. This research also provides practical implications to improve knowledge sharing in professional virtual learning communities on mobile messaging apps.

Using short films for the effective promotion of entrepreneurship
Journal of Global Entrepreneurship Research - Tập 5 - Trang 1-9 - 2015
Mass media formats such as films may affect attitude and behavior at social, group or individual level. Existing literature lack sufficient evidence and results on the way according to which, films may influence in a positive manner entrepreneurial attitude. Research and results reported herein provide insight with respect to different executional factor formats that can be used in the design of effective short-films aimed toward fostering positive entrepreneurial attitude. Drawing on a sample of 221 engineering students and by means of Conjoint Analysis, we launched an experimental investigation aiming to understand perceived preferences for different combinations of short films’ executional characteristics. Results suggest that the source of the message is perceived as the most important factor for the construction of effective short films followed by the length of the film. Research results reported herein represent a first step towards the better understanding of the design and construction of effective audiovisual means for the promotion of entrepreneurship and hence maximize the use of limited funding sources.
Investigating the possibility of producing animal feed from sugarcane bagasse using oyster mushrooms: a case in rural entrepreneurship
Journal of Global Entrepreneurship Research - Tập 9 - Trang 1-8 - 2019
Pleurotus florida is an edible mushroom that has commercial potential in the food industry. The objective of this study was to investigate the possibility of producing animal feed from sugarcane bagasse using P. florida. To this aim, sugarcane bagasse was processed with P. florida. The experiment was designed in a completely randomized design with four treatments: processed sugarcane bagasse, raw sugarcane bagasse, wheat straw, and barley straw. This research was carried out under two in vitro and in vivo conditions. In case of in vitro condition, it can be concluded that the amount of dry matter, neutral detergent fiber (P < 0.01), and acidic detergent fiber (P < 0.05) significantly decreased in processed sugarcane bagasse, and the amount of crude protein (P < 0.05), organic matter, and crude ash (P < 0.01) significantly increased. The result of in vivo condition showed that as a result of biological processing of sugarcane bagasse with P. florida, the indices such as digestibility, voluntary feed intake, and relative palatability index increased. The results of this study suggests that treated bagasse could be used as an alternative roughage source for ruminant feeding.
Triple Helix and academic entrepreneurial intention: understanding motivating factors for academic spin-off among young researchers
Journal of Global Entrepreneurship Research - Tập 9 - Trang 1-15 - 2019
Academic Spin-off is receiving a growing attention in entrepreneurship research due to increase in the number of ventures coming out from academia working at universities. The role of triple helix is key among many factors that derive young researchers to establish new venture as an outcome of their research. Thus, there is a need to determine the factors that derive young researchers for venture creation in order to identify and understand the determinants of Academic Entrepreneurial Intention (AEI) and how they are influenced by different helices of Triple Helix Model (THM). This study used sample of 310 young academic researchers studying/working in different universities of Pakistan. The finding of this study highlighted that government and academia have significantly positive relationship with the academic entrepreneurial intentions of young researchers while industry has positive, but insignificant relationship. The findings of this study have implication for promoting academic spin-off from developed and developing countries context.

On the utility of the stochastic processes in modeling the nexus between entrepreneurship and innovation: a nonparametric application of Bayesian inference
Journal of Global Entrepreneurship Research - Tập 11 - Trang 97-111 - 2021
The application of stochastic processes in modeling uncertain phenomena will benefit researchers in the fields of various sciences like management, engineering, chemistry, physics, and business. The present article tries to apply several stochastic processes to modeling the relationship between entrepreneurial innovation and entrepreneurship. The Chinese restaurant process (CRP) and the Blackwell-MacQueen scheme are the processes that will be utilized to explore a predictive model. By presenting illustrative evidence, the CRP and the Blackwell-MacQueen scheme have helped us to understand how the Schumpeterian approach goes true. The study on the proposed equation demonstrated that the considered model also may signify levels of the decision in interpreting the nexus between innovation and entrepreneurship. Hence, a new function, arbitrary called “decision function,” was discovered and introduced in this study. After having reviewed the properties of the decision function, the relationship between entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial innovation (and also economic growth in its wake) was studied and interpreted. Regardless of mathematical models resulted from applying stochastic processes in investigating the relationship between entrepreneurship and innovation factors, the present paper reveals the importance of statistical models and stochastic processes in understanding the unmeasurable networks formed out of various factors.
The mediating role of organizational capabilities between organizational performance and its determinants
Journal of Global Entrepreneurship Research - Tập 9 - Trang 1-23 - 2019
The objective of the current research is to determine the influence of management control system (MCS) as a package on organization performance, and organizational capabilities play an important role to explain this relationship. Data were collected from general managers and chief financial officers from the textile industry of Pakistan to empirically test hypotheses of this study. One hundred sixty questionnaires were used in the analysis through partial least square equation modeling technique. The findings elucidated a significant influence of cybernetic, rewards and compensation, and administrative controls on organizational performance. The same findings were found with cultural, cybernetic, rewards and compensation, planning, and administrative controls with organizational capabilities. Despite this, planning controls and cultural controls have no influence on organizational performance. Organizational capabilities mediate the relationship between all five elements of MCS as a package and organizational performance. The findings provide insights to top management of the textile industry to enhance organizational performance by focusing on indicators mentioned in the study. In addition, improvements in organizational capabilities will also enhance organizational performance. The current research is the pioneer study that tests the mediating role of organizational capabilities between MCS as a package and organizational performance with the help of resource orchestration theory and resource-based view theory. Aspirations to grow: when micro- and informal enterprises in the street food sector speak for themselves
Journal of Global Entrepreneurship Research - Tập 9 - Trang 1-24 - 2019
The street food sector in Sub-Saharan Africa is a source of affordable and nutritious meals for the urban poor, while also being an important source of income for the women who dominate this sector. Despite the importance of this sector, many micro- and informal enterprises are labelled as “survivalist”, beyond the reach of common development policies, which give priority to so-called growth-oriented enterprises. When given the chance to speak for themselves, do enterprises express any aspirations to grow? Contrary to the literature, our findings show that necessity-driven enterprises do aspire to grow and that this is true for both those owned by men and women. Using contextual interaction theory, this paper explains why it is possible for previous authors to come to such a different conclusion.
