On the Prediction of Stress Relaxation From Known Creep of Nonlinear Materials
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology - Tập 119 Số 2 - Trang 121-124 - 1997
D. Touati, G. Cederbaum
A method to predict the nonlinear relaxation behavior from creep experiments of nonlinear viscoelastic materials is presented. It is shown that for given nonlinear creep properties, and creep compliance represented by the Prony series, the Schapery creep model can be transformed into a set of first order nonlinear equations. The solution of these equations enables the obtaining of the nonl...... hiện toàn bộ
Further Developments in Anisotropic Plasticity
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology - Tập 100 Số 3 - Trang 294-302 - 1978
C.F. Shih, D. Lee
A simple extension of Hill’s formulation for anisotropic plasticity which accounts for the distortion of the yield surface, Mij, the strength differential between tension and compression, αi and the effective size of the loading surface, k, has been proposed. These material parameters, Mij, αi, and k, define the initial state of the material and vary with plastic deformation. The parameter...... hiện toàn bộ
Representation of the High-Temperature Tensile Behavior of Reannealed Type 304 Stainless Steel by the Voce Equation
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology - Tập 97 Số 2 - Trang 98-106 - 1975
R.W. Swindeman
Tensile tests were performed on a reference heat of type 304 stainless steel (heat 9T2796) in the laboratory reannealed condition. Testing temperatures ranged from 25 to 760 deg C (77 to 1400 deg F) and strain rates were varied from 1.5 × 10−6 to 8.3 × 10−2/s. Several models were developed to represent the tensile curves, and each model was restricted to a specific range of applicability. ...... hiện toàn bộ
The Influence of Aging on Critical Transformation Stress Levels and Martensite Start Temperatures in NiTi: Part I—Aged Microstructure and Micro-Mechanical Modeling
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology - Tập 121 Số 1 - Trang 19-27 - 1999
Ken Gall, Hüseyin Şehitoğlu, Y.I. Chumlyakov, И. В. Киреева, Hans Jürgen Maier
Transmission electron microscopy is used to determine the microstructures of a Ti-50.8 at% Ni alloy given different aging treatments. Two different peak-aging treatments are shown to result in disk shaped semi-coherent Ti3Ni4 precipitates with a diameter ranging from 50 nm to 200 nm depending on the aging temperature. In the peak-aged materials, strong strain fields are clearly visible on ...... hiện toàn bộ
Dislocation-Stacking Fault Tetrahedron Interactions in Cu
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology - Tập 124 Số 3 - Trang 329-334 - 2002
Brian D. Wirth, Vasily V. Bulatov, T. Dı́az de la Rubia
In copper and other face centered cubic metals, high-energy particle irradiation produces hardening and shear localization. Post-irradiation microstructural examination in Cu reveals that irradiation has produced a high number density of nanometer sized stacking fault tetrahedra. The resultant irradiation hardening and shear localization is commonly attributed to the interaction between st...... hiện toàn bộ
Approximate Models for Ductile Metals Containing Nonspherical Voids—Case of Axisymmetric Oblate Ellipsoidal Cavities
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology - Tập 116 Số 3 - Trang 290-297 - 1994
Mihai Gologanu, Jean‐Baptiste Leblond, J. Devaux
The aim of this paper is to extend the classical Gurson (1977) analysis of a hollow rigid ideal-plastic sphere loaded axisymmetrically to an ellipsoidal volume containing a confocal oblate ellipsoidal cavity. An “expansion” velocity field satisfying conditions of homogeneous boundary strain rate is used to derive a two-field estimate of the overall yield criterion. The latter is shown to b...... hiện toàn bộ
Time and Temperature Dependent Recovery of Epoxy-Based Shape Memory Polymers
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology - Tập 133 Số 2 - 2011
Francisco Castro, Kristofer K. Westbrook, Jason Hermiller, Dae Up Ahn, Yifu Ding, H. Jerry Qi
Shape memory polymers (SMPs) are a group of adaptive polymers that can recover the permanent shape from a temporary shape by external stimuli on demand. Among a variety of external stimuli for polymer actuation, temperature is the most extensively used. In SMP applications, one of the major design considerations is the time necessary to recover the shape without external deformation constr...... hiện toàn bộ
A Simplified Approach to Estimate Limiting Drawing Ratio and Maximum Drawing Load in Cup Drawing
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology - Tập 126 Số 1 - Trang 116-122 - 2004
Daw-Kwei Leu, Jen-Yu Wu
A new and practically applicable equation, including the normal anisotropy R, the strain hardening exponent n, the friction coefficient μ, and the bending factor t0/rd for estimating the limiting drawing ratio LDR (a measure of drawability of sheet metal) in cup drawing of a cylindrical cup with a flat-nosed punch is derived by an elementary theory of plasticity in an explicit form. Whitel...... hiện toàn bộ
On the Microstructural Origin of Certain Inelastic Models
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology - Tập 106 Số 4 - Trang 326-330 - 1984
Elias C. Aifantis
A unifying program modeling the evolution of microstructures and their effects on the macroscopic response of materials is outlined. The new physical assumption introduced is the distinction among “normal” states associated with the parent lattice and “excited” states associated with the occurring microstructures. Both states are described by the usual balance laws of continuum mechanics p...... hiện toàn bộ
Natural Strain
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology - Tập 117 Số 4 - Trang 379-385 - 1995
Alan D. Freed
The purpose of this paper is to present a consistent and thorough development of the strain and strain-rate measures affiliated with Hencky. Natural measures for strain and strain-rate, as I refer to them, are first expressed in terms of the fundamental body-metric tensors of Lodge. These strain and strain-rate measures are mixed tensor fields. They are mapped from the body to space in bot...... hiện toàn bộ
