This pilot-study examines the self-perceptions, and explanatory models, of 42
patients with either respiratory or gastrointestinal psychosomatic disorders.
For several reasons, these disorders comprise an anomalous category within the
biomedical model. It is suggested that clinicians explain their chronic,
