The Evolutionary Significance of Sugar Accumulation in Saccharum
CSIRO Publishing - Tập 16 Số 4 - Trang 737 - 1963
T. A. Bull, KT Glasziou
Sugar levels in the various species of the Saccharum complex suggest an evolutionary increase in sugar content. Under suitable ecological conditions, survival through sucker growth may be dependent on rapid mobilization of stored carbohydrate. Selection pressure for sucrose storage would then oocur if sucrose was more readily remobilized than other storage carbohydrates. It is suggested th...... hiện toàn bộ
The Output of Spermatozoa in Rams II. Relationship to Scrotal Circumference, Testis Weight, and the Number of Spermatozoa in Different Parts of the Urogenital Tract
CSIRO Publishing - Tập 25 Số 2 - Trang 359 - 1972
BF Lino
Daily spermatozoan output from the urogenital tract (DSOU), scrotal circumference, testis weight, and the numbers of spermatozoa in the epididymis and other parts of the urogenital tract were measured in 10 rams. Testis weight and the numbers of spermatozoa in the head, body, and tail of the epididymis and in the vas deferens and ampulla were found to be bilaterally symmetrical in each ram...... hiện toàn bộ
A Study of Lipid Absorption in Young Milk-Fed Calves with the Use of a Lymphatico-Venous Shunt for the Collection of Thoracic Duct Lymph
CSIRO Publishing - Tập 20 Số 3 - Trang 669 - 1967
AD Shannon, AK Lascelles
A technique has been described for the collection of thoracic duct lymph from the young milk-fed calf. The establishment of a recirculating lymphatico-venous shunt permitted the repeated sampling of lymph from three calves for periods of 9-17 days, during which the animals remained in good health.
Effect of Skim-Milk Feeding on the Flow and Composition of Thoracic Duct and Intestinal Lymph in Young Calves
CSIRO Publishing - Tập 22 Số 1 - Trang 197 - 1969
AD Shannon, AK Lasoelles
The effect of feeding skim milk on the flow and composition of lymph from thoracic and intestinal ducts was studied in young calves by means of lymphatico-venous shunts. The changes observed were similar for both thoracic duct and intestinal lymph. Skim-milk feeding significantly reduced lymph flow but had no effect on total protein concentration in lymph and no effect on lymph: plasma rat...... hiện toàn bộ
Studies on The Greening of Dark-Grown Bean Plants II. Development of Photochemical Activity
CSIRO Publishing - Tập 17 Số 1 - Trang 93 - 1964
Jan M. Anderson, N.K. Boardman
A study of the photochemical activity of plastids isolated from etiolated bean leaves which had been illuminated for increasing periods was undertaken. Proplastids isolated from etiolated leaves were inactive in the Hill reaction. Photochemical ferricyanide reduction was obtained with plastids isolated from etiolated leaves which had been illuminated for 6 hr. The reduction increased to a ...... hiện toàn bộ
Abundance of Pythium Species in Nursery Soils in South Australia
CSIRO Publishing - Tập 17 Số 2 - Trang 436 - 1964
O. Vaartaja, M Bumbieris
The abundance of Pythium propagules and frequency of 11 Pythium species were estimated in 16 soil plots in South Australian forest nurseries, in one ornamental nursery. and in one pine forest. A soil-plating technique Was utilized and a medium developed which was highly selective for these species and allowed their identification directly on the plates. The number of Pythium propagules in ...... hiện toàn bộ
The Early Stages of Grain Development in Wheat: Response to Light and Temperature in a Single Variety
CSIRO Publishing - Tập 23 Số 4 - Trang 765 - 1970
IF Wardlaw
For wheat plants (cv. Gabo) grown under natural daylight at a temperature of 21/16C, increase in dry weight of the stem exceeded that of the ear for the first 10 days following anthesis. Higher temperatures (27/22C) resulted in a greater rate of grain development, with a corresponding increase in the rate of cell division in the endosperm tissue, and a shortening of the stem growth perio...... hiện toàn bộ
Studies on Metatherian Sex Chromosomes IV. X Linkage of PGK-A with Paternal X Inactivation Confirmed in Erythrocytes of Grey Kangaroos by Pedigree Analysis
CSIRO Publishing - Tập 30 Số 2 - Trang 115 - 1977
J. L. VandeBerg, Desmond W. Cooper, GB Sharman, W. E. Poole
Pedigree and population data are presented for erythrocyte phosphoglycerate kinase A (PGK-A) allozymes in the two species of grey kangaroo. The pedigree data confirm the hypothesis that PGK-A is X linked, the paternally derived X chromosome being inactive in nucleated erythroblast precursors of the enucleate erythrocytes in females. The existence of different allozyme variants in eastern a...... hiện toàn bộ
The Phylogeny of the Ribonuclease-Ribonuclease Inhibitor System: Its Distribution in Tissues and its Response During Leukaemogenesis and Aging
CSIRO Publishing - Tập 23 Số 1 - Trang 175 - 1970
N. Kraft, Ken Shortman
Acid RNAase, alkaline RNAase, and alkaline RNAase inhibitor appear to be widespread in higher animals. The livers of all mammalian species tested including that ofa monotreme contained inhibitor active against bovine pancreatic RNAase. Chick liver contained inhibitor active against "activated" chick liver supernatant RNAase, but not against bovine pancreatic RNAase. The rat liver inhibitor...... hiện toàn bộ
Storage of Two-Cell Mouse Embryos in Vitro
CSIRO Publishing - Tập 22 Số 4 - Trang 1065 - 1969
DG Whittingham, RG Wales
There are reports of the storage at O-lOoC of fertilized rabbit (Chang 1947, 1948; Hafez 1965) and sheep ova (Averill 1956; Kardymowicz et al. 1963; Kardy-mowicz, Kardymowicz, and Grochowalski 1966; Kardymowicz, Kardymowicz, and Kremer 1966). However, the storage of fertilized mouse ova in vitro does not appear to have been studied. Wales (1969) found that glycolysis at 37C by cultured bl...... hiện toàn bộ
