Wolfram syndrome (WFS) is a rare diffuse neurodegenerative disorder
characterized by diabetes insipidus, diabetes mellitus, optic atrophy, deafness,
and a wide variety of central nervous system abnormalities. Insulin-dependent
diabetes mellitus with optic nerve atrophy is sufficient criteria for the
diagnosis. WFS is a devastating disease for the patients and their families.

We report a case of hemi-retinal vein occlusion following laser-assisted in situ
keratomileusis (LASIK) in a healthy 46-year-old Caucasian male. A hemi-retinal
vein occlusion following LASIK could be coincidental. However, young age,
absence of risk factors and negative laboratory testing require consideration of
a causal relationship.

The safety and effectiveness of simultaneous bilateral extracapsular cataract
extraction were investigated in a retrospective review of 211 consecutive
patients (422 eyes). Patients underwent bilateral extracapsular cataract
extraction with posterior chamber lens implantation in one operative session
