Optic neuritis due to isolated sphenoid sinusitis is rare. A 37-year-old woman presented with such a case, which also was associated with galactorrhea. The patient’s optic neuritis showed steroid sensitivity. She was found to have chronic erosive sphenoid sinusitis and hyperprola ctinemia. Treatment specific for sinusitis (drainage of the sphenoid sinus) improved her symptoms.

A hemi-retinal vein occlusion following LASIK could be coincidental. However, young age, absence of risk factors and negative laboratory testing require consideration of a causal relationship.
