The tetraphyllidean larvae increased in volume, when transferred to dilute
sea-water. However there is a decrease in volume in 50% sea-water. The
conductivity of the medium shows a slight decrease both in 50% and 25%
sea-water, indicating the uptake of salts from the external medium. In 10%
sea-water the conductivity of the medium goes up steadily.
The paper reports the occurrence of twelve species of Archiannelids in the
interstitial sands of the Waltair beach. Of these, six European species are
reported for the first time from Indian waters and their occurrence on the
Indian coast is of great interest from a Zoogeographical aspect of their
distribution.
The interactions of free and complexed copper ions (Cu(ClO4)2, Cu(acac)2, and
CuTPP) with the surface of nonstoichiometric CdS nanoparticles were monitored by
EPR spectroscopy, recombination luminescence quenching and UV/VIS absorption
spectroscopy. It was found that formation of a surface S-Cu bond takes place
both in the case of Cu(ClO4)2 (free Cu2+ ions) and Cu(acac)2. This process is
accompani... hiện toàn bộ
The floral parts arise in acropetal succession. Unicellular hairs are
distributed over the floral parts. Plenty of tannin cells are found. The wall of
the anther consists of five layers external to the tapetum. The tapetal cells
are uninucleate at first, but later become binucleate, and are of the glandular
type. The endothecium and the layer immediately below it are fibrillar. The
microspores are... hiện toàn bộ
A study has been made of the rate of liberation of cystine and amino nitrogen
from eight proteins during successive digestion by pepsin and trypsin. Assuming
the specificity of the Sullivan reaction it can be concluded that no free
cystine is present in peptic digests. The same reaction shows that cystine is
rapidly set free during the action of trypsin. From the vegetable proteins
(edestin, gliad... hiện toàn bộ
The isolation and identification of capsaicin from fruits yielded two
substances. The white crystalline compound, which, after U.V. and I.R.
examination, exhibited the maximum absorption at 206 mµ and the characteristics
of long chain-n-alkyl, adjacent to a carboxyl group, was identified as palmatic
acid. The molecular formula was, later on, confirmed to C19H38O2. The second,
which was oily in nat... hiện toàn bộ
