Tài liệu về kinh tế tuần hoàn (CE) đang gia tăng đáng kể. Mặc dù khái niệm này xuất hiện từ những năm 1970, nhưng chỉ gần đây nó mới thu hút được sự quan tâm trong cộng đồng khoa học. Tuy nhiên, còn rất ít điều được biết đến về nguồn gốc của nó, cách mà cộng đồng quốc tế hình thành và các khái niệm được tiếp cận và phát triển như thế nào bằng cách huy động các cách tiếp cận lý thuyết khác nhau, đặc biệt là trong lĩnh vực nhân văn và khoa học xã hội. Nghiên cứu này lấp đầy khoảng trống này bằng cách làm sáng tỏ những phát triển gần đây trong lĩnh vực từ một góc nhìn khu vực. Chúng tôi đã sử dụng các phương pháp hỗ trợ bởi máy tính (xử lý ngôn ngữ tự nhiên, mô hình hóa chủ đề, địa phân tích, khoa học thông tin và ngôn ngữ học tính toán) trên dữ liệu văn bản để nắm bắt sự tiến hóa của khung lý thuyết trong lĩnh vực, làm nổi bật các chủ đề chính, xác định các yếu tố chính, lập bản đồ địa lý của việc sản xuất tri thức, và xem xét các loại gần gũi không gian giữa các diễn viên của nó. Theo như chúng tôi biết, đây là nỗ lực đầu tiên để dò tìm nguồn gốc địa lý của kinh tế tuần hoàn bằng cách sử dụng dữ liệu văn bản quy mô lớn để tạo ra tri thức sâu sắc về nguồn gốc không gian-thời gian của lĩnh vực này bằng cách phân tích cách mà các hệ thống khép kín được nghiên cứu qua các vùng, trên toàn cầu.
