Vào tháng 4 năm 2020, Mạng lưới Thông tin về Dịch bệnh của Tổ chức Y tế Thế giới (WHO) đã đưa ra một chương trình nghị sự để quản lý thông tin dịch bệnh COVID-19. "Thông tin dịch bệnh" đề cập đến sự dư thừa thông tin - bao gồm các thông tin sai lệch và thông tin không chính xác. Trong chương trình nghị sự này, đã chỉ ra sự cần thiết phải tạo ra một khung năng lực cho quản lý thông tin dịch bệnh (IM). Khung này được phát hành bởi WHO vào ngày 20 tháng 9 năm 2021.
