Các chuyển động quy mô rất lớn dưới dạng các vùng dài của dao động vận tốc theo chiều dòng được quan sát trong lớp ngoài của dòng chảy ống turbulent đã phát triển hoàn toàn qua một loạt các số Reynolds. Phổ một chiều đã được tiền nhân đôi của vận tốc theo chiều dòng được đo bằng phương pháp anemometry phim nóng có một phân phối bimodal mà các thành phần của nó liên quan đến chuyển động quy mô lớn và một loạt các quy mô nhỏ hơn tương ứng với chuyển động turbulent chính.
