U xơ tử cung, loại khối u lành tính phổ biến nhất của hệ thống sinh sản nữ, là chỉ định phổ biến nhất cho phẫu thuật cắt tử cung. Tuy nhiên, thủ thuật này không phải là phương pháp điều trị lý tưởng cho nhiều phụ nữ, bao gồm cả những người mong muốn bảo tồn khả năng sinh sản hoặc đơn giản là không muốn trải qua phẫu thuật.
