Một nghiên cứu về địa hình của đường dẫn cortico-rubrospinal đã được thực hiện trên mèo dưới تأثير gây mê chloralose. Các ghi nhận đơn vị ngoại bào đã được thực hiện từ các tế bào trong hạt đỏ có sự hướng dẫn đến tủy sống. Chúng được xác định bằng sự xâm nhập ngược dòng sau khi kích thích các tế bào thần kinh trục của chúng ở mức đốt sống cổ thứ 2 và đốt sống ngực thứ 9.
