Trụ sở công ty (CHQs) của các doanh nghiệp đa quốc gia (MNEs) nên đóng vai trò gì trong các sáng kiến của công ty con? Thay vì coi CHQ của MNE như một đơn vị thống nhất bên trong, chúng tôi kêu gọi khảo sát sự đa dạng của các nhà ra quyết định cá nhân, những người có thể bị thúc đẩy bởi nhiều động lực khác nhau và có những khả năng khác nhau. Động lực và khả năng cùng nhau quyết định liệu các nhà điều hành doanh nghiệp có sẽ can thiệp vào các sáng kiến của công ty con hay không, cũng như hiệu quả của sự can thiệp đó. Nếu không hiệu quả, “sự thống trị của văn phòng chính” sẽ xuất hiện. Chúng tôi áp dụng khái niệm chiếc thuyền Coleman để chỉ ra cách mà các phân tích theo bối cảnh ở cấp độ MNE và các phân tích được đề xuất của các nhà ra quyết định cá nhân cần được kết hợp khi khám phá các cơ chế vi mô cơ bản của các quyết định.
