Sự quan tâm về phúc lợi chủ quan của trẻ em và thanh thiếu niên (CYP) đang ngày càng gia tăng trong giới học thuật, các nhà hoạch định chính sách và các chuyên gia thực hành. Sự công nhận quyền của CYP trong việc có một thời thơ ấu tốt đẹp và những cơ hội sống tốt trong tương lai, cộng với yêu cầu từ Tân Tâm lý học về Thời thơ ấu nhằm tham vấn CYP như những tác nhân tích cực, đã dẫn đến sự tăng cường lợi ích về việc sử dụng phúc lợi như một khái niệm chủ chốt trong các chương trình chính sách ở nhiều quốc gia.
