Giải quyết vấn đề là cốt lõi của chương trình giảng dạy toán học Singapore. Tuy nhiên, việc thực hiện mục tiêu chương trình này trong thực tiễn vẫn là một thách thức đối với các giáo viên. Tại đây, chúng tôi xem xét những nỗ lực của các nhà giáo dục toán học Singapore trong việc tích hợp năng lực (giảng dạy) giải quyết vấn đề vào các chương trình đào tạo giáo viên và phát triển chuyên môn. Chúng tôi thảo luận về các vấn đề khái niệm và thực tiễn, các hành động đã thực hiện và những thay đổi đã được thực hiện để nâng cao năng lực của giáo viên trong việc thực hiện một chương trình giảng dạy tập trung vào giải quyết vấn đề trong một dự án thiết kế tại trường. Trong dự án này, các giáo viên đã học về giải quyết vấn đề, quan sát và sau đó thực hiện các bài học, sử dụng “Thực hành Toán học”—tương tự như thực hành khoa học—như là nền tảng cho việc giảng dạy và đánh giá.
