Trong thập kỷ qua, nền kinh tế xu hình đã mở rộng rộng rãi trong các quần thể và hành vi trong điều trị, phục hồi chức năng, giáo dục và các thiết lập cộng đồng. Nghiên cứu kết quả cũng đã mở rộng để bao gồm các đánh giá chương trình quy mô lớn và các nghiên cứu so sánh cũng như kết hợp của nền kinh tế xu hình. Trong một đánh giá trước đây (Kazdin & Bootzin, 1972), một số trở ngại đã được xác định cho việc áp dụng hiệu quả nền kinh tế xu hình.
