Các cuộc phỏng vấn sâu với tám nạn nhân nữ của vụ hiếp dâm tại Ibadan, Nigeria đã được thực hiện để khám phá bối cảnh xảy ra sự kiện cưỡng bức, các hành vi tìm kiếm sức khỏe sau đó và những hậu quả của trải nghiệm này trong cuộc sống của nạn nhân. Độ tuổi trung bình của những người phụ nữ là 17 tuổi. Trong tất cả các trường hợp, những kẻ gây ra vụ hiếp dâm đều là những người mà nạn nhân quen biết. Vụ hiếp dâm chủ yếu xảy ra trong các tình huống quen thuộc và riêng tư. Hiếm khi nạn nhân thông báo sự việc cho gia đình hoặc bạn bè hoặc báo cáo vụ việc đến các cơ quan thực thi pháp luật. Kỳ thị liên quan đến hiếp dâm là một rào cản chính trong việc tìm kiếm sự chăm sóc. Các can thiệp được đề xuất để giải quyết những vấn đề này.
