Tóm tắt

The necessity to distinguish republics as specific type of federal subjects is proven in the paper. Limited economic and human resources are a distinctive feature of a majority of these subjects. The possibilities of economic and social development of the republics are considered taking into account their specific features. All the results are obtained on the base of analysis of official statistical data. The parameters include data on the share of republics in the total output of critical sectors of the Russian economy. The following relative parameters are selected for 1991, which was the last year when republics were parts of the Soviet Union: population, agriculture, mining, manufacturing, and the electric power industry. The parameters for 2008 were the same, and the following were added: gross regional product (GRP), electric power, gas, and water generation and distribution; construction; wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles, etc.; hotels and restaurants; and transport and telecommunications.
