Gentamicin là một trong những loại kháng sinh được sử dụng phổ biến nhất trong các đơn vị chăm sóc trẻ sơ sinh và có nhiều chế độ điều trị dựa trên trọng lượng và/hoặc tuổi thai (GA). Các chi phí trực tiếp bao gồm chi phí kê đơn và giám sát thuốc điều trị (TDM). Một cuộc kiểm toán hồi cứu (vòng 1) đã xác định 48% mức độ trough và 51% mức độ đỉnh nằm ngoài phạm vi mong muốn (mức trough: ≤2; mức đỉnh: 5‐10 mg/L). Một cuộc kiểm toán lại theo cách định hướng (vòng 2) đã cho thấy kết quả cải thiện (15% và 29%), và điều này lại tiếp tục cải thiện (11% và 26%) ở vòng 3. Đối với các vòng 1, 2 và 3, mức độ trough trung bình (±SD) lần lượt là 2.16 (±1.04), 1.30 (± 0.63) và 1.23 (±0.62) và mức độ đỉnh là 5.05 (±1.87), 6.64 (±2.48), và 6.2 (±1.81) tương ứng.
