Nhiều nghiên cứu đã thiết lập mối tương quan giữa các vấn đề đọc sớm và sự thiếu hụt trong một số kỹ năng ngôn ngữ nói nhất định, chẳng hạn như khả năng nhận thức cấu trúc âm tiết của các từ nói, và khả năng giữ lại một chuỗi từ trong trí nhớ ngắn hạn bằng lời nói.
